    How do I make one?

    1. Step 1

      Choose the place

Search the town, venue or address where the moment happened. The sky is calculated for that exact spot.

    2. Step 2

      Set the date and time

Enter the local date and time. The time zone and daylight saving are handled for you.

    3. Step 3

      Write your words

Add a title, a second line and the automatic line with date, time and coordinates, or pick an idea.

    4. Step 4

      Pick the look

Choose from 12 color styles, a circle, heart, arch or full-bleed sky, and the frame shape.

    5. Step 5

      Download and print

Pay once and download a 4800-pixel PNG plus print-ready PDFs for every common size.

    Is the star map accurate?

Yes. Star positions come from the Hipparcos-based XHIP catalogue (about 8,900 stars down to magnitude 6.5, the faintest the naked eye can see under a dark sky). We turn your date, time and place into the sky overhead using standard astronomy formulas, including the slow drift of the stars over the centuries.

The Moon is drawn where it really stood, in its real phase. For poster use the result matches a planetarium app to well under a degree.

    What if it was daytime?

The stars are still there in daylight, just hidden by the bright sky. If the Sun was up at the time you choose, the studio tells you, and the poster shows the stars that were overhead anyway. Many people pick the evening of the day instead.

    Which moments do people choose?

Wedding nights and first dates are the most popular, followed by engagements, the birth of a baby, birthdays and memorials. For a wedding, use the venue and the time of the first dance or the vows.

    1. 1. Pick the file for your frameEach download has PDFs for every common size. Choose the one that matches your frame, e.g. A3, 50×70 cm or 18×24″.
    2. 2. Use a print shop or photo labUpload the PDF and ask for “actual size / 100%”, matte or fine-art paper, 170–250 gsm.
    3. 3. Small sizes at homeA4 and 8×10″ print well on a good inkjet on matte photo paper. Turn off “fit to page”.

    Poster questions

How far back can I go?

Any date from 1800 to 2200. The sky is calculated, not looked up, so a grandparent’s wedding in 1952 works as well as last Saturday.

Why does the sky look reversed compared to a map?

A star map is read looking up, so east is on the left and west on the right, the opposite of a road map. Hold the poster above your head facing south and it matches the sky.

What do I get when I buy?

A digital download: a 4800-pixel PNG and a print-ready PDF for every common size (A4 to A1, 50×70 cm, 30×40 cm, 40×50 cm, and 8×10″ up to 24×36″). One design costs $7.99; an “Our story” poster costs $11.99. Buy three designs and the cheapest one is free.

Do you print and ship the poster?

Not yet. You get the files instantly and print them anywhere: a local print shop, an online photo lab or a home printer for A4 and 8×10″. Matte paper of 170–250 gsm looks best.

    Is there a watermark?

Only on the free preview. The files you download after paying have no watermark and no logo.

Can I see it before paying?

Yes. The live preview is exactly what you download, and you can save a watermarked preview image for free to show your partner or family.

What if I am not happy?

Email us within 7 days with your order number and we refund you in full.
