The short answer: A4 is 21 × 29.7 cm, A3 is 29.7 × 42 cm, A2 is 42 × 59.4 cm and A1 is 59.4 × 84.1 cm. Each A size is exactly half of the size above it, so two A4 sheets make an A3 and two A3 sheets make an A2. For a sharp print, the file needs about 300 pixels per inch (300 dpi). The pixel sizes are in the table below.

Which poster size should I choose?
| Size | Best for | Seen from |
|---|---|---|
| A4 | Notices, menus, certificates, small posters, price lists | Arm's length |
| A3 | Event posters, shop windows, noticeboards, wall art | 1–2 metres |
| A2 | Wedding welcome signs, room posters, wall art | Across a room |
| A1 | Large display and event posters, exhibitions | Across a hall |
Tip: a welcome sign at a wedding or party is usually A2 or larger, so guests can read it from the door.

How to get a sharp print
- Use 300 dpi for anything seen up close (cards, A4, A3). Posters seen from a distance still look good at 150 dpi.
- Export a PDF if you can. Text and lines stay crisp at any size. In Canva, choose Download → PDF Print.
- Keep text away from the edges, at least 5 mm in, so nothing is trimmed off.
- Check before you pay. Our upload shows your file at real size and warns you if the image is too small for the size you picked.
